Kara Winger, at age 36, earned her first global medal and did it in dramatic fashion on her sixth throw with a 210-1 (64.05m) effort to place second in the women's javelin final. She did in in a venue near and dear to her since her high school days at Skyview High in Vancouver, Wash.
